Grandpa Garner's Weekend
(Thank you Jen for all the pictures!)

Yes we cried... a lot. But we also laughed... a lot. It was an extremely emotional but joyous reunion. One where old memories were stirred and new ones made.

All I have left to say is, "I'm proud to be a Garner Girl!"

Here's my poetic attempt to sum up his life:

He worked from 4 am to sunset on the family farm.
Grew up, met a red-headed girl, and used some of that country boy charm.

He fought in the second World War.
Testing the faith, the courage, and the makings of his inner core.

He eventually got to visit home and meet his new baby girl,
Back to war he went to experience a whole other whirl.

He lost a few toes and was left for dead,
When they found him his brother Joe stayed for hours with him near his bed.

He finally returned home to raise his little girl, soon four more to follow.
There were happy times on their small farm, as well as times of sorrow.

His firstborn would grow but only live for nine short years.
No war ever fought would compare to this parent's greatest fear.

Cancer would later take the life of his ultimate love,
That red-headed beauty, at age 63, would return to their daughter above.

His four remaining children visited often and cared for his simple needs.
Lots of visits, and plenty of his favorite treats.

They laughed and told stories, remembered times past,
Holding on to the things that will ultimately last.

21 years and Grandpa has gotten to see his girls once again,
After a hard fought battle and a what I would say, "a win."

So handsome :)
