His Big Day

Everett Matthew turned ONE YEAR on Thursday, August 26th. We had a party all day, just like we do every day with him. He keeps us on our toes, but we love every chance to follow him around. Lots of firsts for this little guy, including WALKING (the most so far has been 18 consecutive steps, but he still prefers crawling) and (trying) to use utensils while he eats. His first word awhile back was "Mama" and Matt honestly believes that just this week he said, "I want my mama" just before going to sleep for the night. Yes, he is SO a mama's boy. Matt envies how often he wants to snuggle with me. I soak it up, believe me! Because before too long this kid is going to be coming home all sweaty from football practice and will say nothing to me but, "Hey Mom, did you go to the store today?" His head will be in the fridge and I'll be making a list for the next trip to the grocery store.

I look forward to greeting this sweet little face every morning and after every nap! This is how happy he is to see Mom every day when he knows it's time to get out of his crib! We walked in this particular morning singing all variations of "Happy Birthday!" He could tell early on that the day was going to be good.

This is his playpen while Mom showers/gets ready. For some odd reason, he actually enjoys it quite well.

For breakfast, he ate one entire banana...

One egg, scrambled...

and one waffle (4x4 inches approx.).
Later that day, we all headed up to Cedar City. Matt had to do some work there so we thought we'd have a birthday party with the Spencers. And it just so happened that Grandma and Grandpa Ekins were planning to come for the night as well (they were going camping with the Spencers the next day). So a party it was! I prepared a "Mexican Fiesta" and we had cake and ice cream afterwords.

Story of "the cake".... so I attemped to make a truck cake (since Rett loves to push trucks around the house) and the frosting of the cake was somewhat disastrous. So my inspired sis-in-law Katherine told me (when I called her asking about fondant) to just go and buy a dump truck, crumple the cake up in the back of it and serve it with ice cream. Brilliant. That's what I did exactly. And act some crushed Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. It was quite yummy. And Rett got a toy truck out of it all. He was just happy to eat cake, no matter what the shape of it was.

Before (notice I even made a truck bed? I had cool cookie wheels, blue fruit roll-ups for the windows, the number one gummies for the doors, and cool treats for the bed of the truck. Oh ya, and another reason why I'm glad we demolished the truck? The frosting turned out hot pink, regardless of how much red dye I used.)

The Spencer's were sweet to remember Abby on Rett's special day... thanks you guys!

He loves to crawl back and forth in the tub

Grandma feeding him before the ride home while wearing his new pajamas she gave. Thank you to both Grandma and Grandpa!

Ready to relax after a long day of partying! Abby was out before him.

The next morning. The picture doesn't quite do this kid justice. He's so stinkin' cute in his Mickey pjs!

Trying to grow up too fast.

You didn't tell me he already got a dump truck for his birthday! Oh, well, now Abby can play with him. The dump truck birthday cake was such a cute idea.
