Overnight Campout

For Matt's birthday a couple of weeks ago, he wanted to go camping. But there was a last-minute change of plans so we had to reschedule for this past weekend. We all know how much Matt loves to camp, but Mom doesn't so much. Well Abby too loves it and I'm pretty sure Rett does/will too. So I took one for the team and went along with the flow. And I must say, other than struggling to sleep the whole night (which is usually my problem), I quite enjoyed it. It's a whole new experience when you take your own little ones. You're so busy worrying about their comforts that it's hard to think about your own! We went to Oak Grove - about a 45 minute drive from our house. It was beautiful and we had a lot of personal space. We enjoyed it enough that I think we'll go again. Matt would like to rent the whole place out to bring the entire family. There's a central gathering place for meals and then a few individual campsites. Anyone interested?

Making/eating dinner of dutch oven potatoes, veggies, and marinated chicken. Watermelon for dessert!

View from the top!

Matt loving his new canvas tent!

We decided it was no big deal we couldn't fit the pack-n-play because the tent itself was a bigger version of one. Rett had so much fun crawling around and exploring in the outdoors (well, inside of a tent).

Trying to get the fire started for S'mores!

Rett loves to eat anything and everything he possibly can! Who doesn't love a S'more?!

Abby eating breakfast while Mom made pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Mmmm. Food makes camping. Heck, food makes everything.

Rett having fun watching us through the window! Can you see him?

My boys are happy after downing plate-size flapjacks!

I couldn't have asked for a better camping buddy.

Or buddies... I should say.

After breakfast we went for an easy hike/exploration on the mountain just up from camp.

I seriously came within one foot of stepping on this little guy! Freaked me out. And yet he still wouldn't move while I took the picture.

We met a really cool family from Hurricane. Their daughter Jenna became instant buddies. She was so cute to Abby - read books to her and gave her treats while Matt and I visited with the rest of the family.

Jenna gave Rett some cheerios and most of them ended up on his face!

So fun! Well, for the next time you go car camping, blow up mattress is the way to go! You'll get a good night's rest for sure. I know, it's cheating a little, but it is so worth it!

We love a good camping trip...can't wait to go with our kids if it would ever stop turning in to WINTER up here! Fun pictures...looks like you guys had a great time. We should bring a tent up to the cabin and let the babies roam around!
