Back in the day, people had to tighten the ropes holding their mattresses before they went to bed so they wouldn't sink towards the middle. And many mattresses were made of hay so they had to shake the bugs out or kill them with a flat wooden panel before they would lie down. Hence the phrase, "Sleep Tight... Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite!"

The Kirtland Temple




We toured all three levels with a missionary of the Church of Christ


Inside the John Johnson Home just outside Kirtland. This is where Joseph was taken in the middle of the night and tarred and feathered by a mob. The very next morning he preached a powerful sermon. One of the Murdock twins whom Joseph and Emma adopted died that night.

At the end of our day, we ate dinner at Mary Yoder's... an Amish restaurant just outside Kirland. Our waitress was a conservative Amish and I had fun asking her a few questions. Our meals were delicious! We had pork ribs, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, rolls with Amish homemade peanut butter sauce, and pie for dessert.
